• An application for naturalisation
• Adequate knowledge of the German
language
• Knowledge of German legal and social
regulations and the way of life in
Germany
• Legal residence in Germany for at least
three years
• Marriage of at least two years’ duration
to a German citizen
• An apartment or other accommodation
• Living expenses must be provided for
without the support of German social
welfare benefits
• No convictions on account of a criminal
offence
• Renunciation of previous naturalisation
If all of the above mentioned conditions
are fulfilled, the authorities may differ
from a positive decision only in exceptional
circumstances, and this decision must
be justified separately.
